Bank Entrance Exams Including IBPS

The candidate looking for career in Banks has to appear for the Common Written Examinations (CWE) conducted by the Institute of Banking Personnel Selection. The Institute of Banking Personnel Selection (IBPS) conducts a series of CWEs for selection of personnel for the posts of Clerks / Probationary Officer (PO)/ Management Trainee, Specialist officers in 20 Public Sector Banks and 82 Regional Rural Banks (RRBs). The State Bank of India (SBI) conducts separate exam for recruitment to the posts of clerks and officers.

Life Insurance Corporation of India and Reserve Bank of India conducts various exams for the different vacancies in their organization. National and State Co-operative Banks and Scheduled Urban Co-operative Bank conducts their own exams for recruitment of clerks and officers. The exam pattern and syllabus is almost identical to that of the CWE conducted by IBPS.

Candidates who qualify in IBPS CWE (PO & Clerical) are called for interview. Names of the candidates who qualify for both CWE and common interview are listed in order of merit. A notification is then issued by IBPS giving the State wise and category wise vacancies for each participating bank. Order of preference for banks is then obtained from the successful candidates. Based on the total marks (CWE + Common Interview), order of preference of banks by the candidate and available vacancies, candidates will receive through a computerized system an offer from one of the participating banks.



The skills that are tested in these exams are reasoning, mathematical, English, general awareness and computers. List of few topics of bank exam are:

1. Quantitative Aptitude

Missing Numbers, Profit & Loss, Time & Speed, Probability, permutation and combination, time and work, time and distance, Simple and compound Interest, Train Problem, Percentage, Ratio & Proportion, pipes & Cisterns, Simplification.

2. Verbal

Synonyms, Antonyms, Error Spotting, Sentence Arrangement, Fill the blanks, Replacing the Phrase, Comprehension, etc.

3. Computer Awareness

Computer concepts, Shortcut keys, Computer devices.

4. Logical Reasoning

Assumptions, Course of Action, Seating Arrangement, Encoding & Decoding, Analogy, Blood Relation Questions.

5. General Awareness

Bank Related Terms, Current Affairs, General Knowledge, Bank Economics.
